Styling Kathryn

You guys. I've raved before about my fab friend Kathryn. I wish you could meet her. She's wonderful.
This May, Nathan and I had the privilege to travel to her family farm in Iowa, where she married her love, our friend, and bar-none the sweetest person on the planet, Rami. In fact, I better move on, before this unravels into too much of a love fest all around.

Kathryn had two incredible dresses. The first was a short, white dress with sweetheart neckline, lace overlay, scalloped hem and yellow ribbon waistband. The second was a strapless, column dress made from the most beautiful crisp, white seersucker. It had pockets (!) and pleating on the bodice. She styled it for the day-after shoot with an antique brooch at the waistband (not seen here), beautiful orange and gold necklace from Rami, birdcage veil, and yellow heels from the wedding.

For her and Rami's Austin reception party at Shoreline (which was last weekend and oh-so much fun), Kathryn asked for some help in restyling the seersucker column dress. In Kathryn's own words, her new short, sassy haircut pretty much required a make-over for the dress. It was a blank slate that could be revamped with hair accessories, possibly a belt, shoes and jewelry.

After scouring Buffalo Exchange, Savers, Anthro, and DSW, we came up with a fabulously chic ensemble of grey, silver and white. You might think that would be boring. But take a look at the beaded belt we found. And take a look at how Kathryn decided to wear it. Backwards!

Details:
Hair accessories: Kathryn restyled her birdcage veil so that most of the veil part was tucked under, clipping in the little grey flower barrettes, which we found on sale at Anthro
Necklace: birthday gift(!) from Rami
Shoes: SM Luxe, from DSW
Belt: the pièce de résistance, from Anthro

Here's to a soppy weekend.

This is the first weekend in years and years that we don't have a shoot or wedding. OK, not years. But it sort of feels that way.
And aside from shooting in the glowy morning light alongside the mister, I happen to love sleeping in until 11. Shameful, isn't it?

Other than a meet-up I have with a friend on Sunday to plan for a stylish new enterprise (more on that later!), we fully intend to do the minimal amount of work this weekend, curl up with movies upon movies and possibly make these recipes.
They fit the new diet, (other than the corn, so I may nix that bit) and don't they look marvelous?

What are you up to this weekend?

Friday Favorites, vol. 25

You guys. This week was the first of school. It was the second week back for teachers, and the third week back for us instructional coaches.
Seriously. Exhausting. And while a good kind of exhausting, nevertheless, I'm so braindead that if I try to write little quippy commentary on these items, it'll just come across as the classic Charlie Brown teacher, "Wahn, wahn, wahn."

So, I give you the photos, all on their own.
Are you as happy to see the weekend as I am?

My week can best be expressed through this photo.

Don't I wish.

We started a pretty basic diet this week. The diet came from two things: feeling for a while that we really need to get our health/eating under control and a conversation Nathan had with our good friend, who's also a personal trainer and triathlete(!), Jeremiah.

(Ironically, Jeremiah jotted the notes for the diet on the back of a beer coaster from The Flying Saucer.)

Anyway, Nathan is calling it the Caveman Diet or the Hunter-Gatherer Diet. I jokingly asked if it was also known as the Paleolithic Diet.
But, you guys, it IS called that. Last night we got to eat steak, asparagus and greens, so it tasted more like a date night on the town than a diet.

This being the Caveman Diet and all, it stands to reason that I'll look like Raquel Welch in a matter of weeks, right?

One thing I know for sure. If the substitutions are just as or more delicious than what I was eating before, I can SO deal with it. i.e. I've been making yummy iced tea like crazy, and drinking it in place of soda. Tonight I'm going to make some earl grey iced tea infused with lavender, inspired by the tea I had weeks ago at Somnio's Cafe that I still can't stop thinking about.

I can already tell that the biggest challenge of the diet for me will be cutting out sweets, breads, and most dairy. Will I survive? Time will tell, my friends. Time will tell.

Monday Dose of Cuteness, vol. VIII

I realize that if I had my act together, I'd be posting the Monday Dose of Cuteness in the morning, when it might help you to get through the most tragic part of your Monday, as opposed to posting on Monday night, when you're already cozied up at home with Cash Cab and a glass of red. My best excuse is that school started this week, so things are a tad ridiculous.

To remedy this Monday stat, I give you Pacman Photos! (just add them to your red wine and Cash Cab, m'kay?)
