Here's to a fascinating weekend.

(Bilddatenbank, Einzelbildansicht)

We're shooting another weddin this weekend. To be more specific, the mister is second-shooting a wedding with the marvelous Bryan Skeen, and Kendi and I will be playing while the boys are a'workin.

And I'm totally OK with that.

What are your plans for the three-day weekend?

Friday Favorites, vol. 26

1. lots of lashes

2. card catalogs

And, my personal favorite use of a card catalog, and the way I'd use one if I ever got my hands on one:

3. belted dresses

4. vw beetles

5. teacups with saucers

BONUS: Florence and the Machine

What can I say? They're my current favorite band. Their debut album is the kind of record that you hit repeat the second it's over. My current favorite songs are The Dog Days Are Over, Drumming Song, and Cosmic Love.

What bands are you listening to these days?

I love my mother.

Today I got yet another excellent example of how well my mom knows me.

She emailed me this:
Body of message: Thought you and Nathan might want to enter this! Love, Mom
Subject line: Fw: Enter for a Chance to Win a Trip to Food Network's NYC Wine & Food Festival

Thanks, Mom! I would indeed like to enter this. Love you, too.

P.S. Would YOU like to enter?

The Ladies Who Lunch become Ladies Who Happy Hour and all I got was this lousy photo?

Sadly, yes.

But I blame my school. Tonight was Back to School Night, which was great, but it was also the rescheduled date for Ladies Who Happy Hour, and I HAD to be there, so I pulled a move that would've shocked Emily Post. I went late. But Emily Post would've forgiven me in a heartbeat, because I brought along my highly pedigreed blogging friend Kathryn, whose wedding gown I recently helped restyle (if you're the squeeing type, you know what to do here). So because I was late, I felt a tad funny snapping photos in people's faces, ja kno? (Even Miss Manners wouldn't forgive that.)

We got to catch up with so many wonderful ladies... (who I haven't seen in ages)
Laura, Rose, Grechen, Becky, Cassiday, Diya, Paridhi, Esosa, and Joanna.

Nice to meet you, Joyce!

Missed seeing you, Sandhya, Sydney, Elia, Michelle and Anslee.

Thanks to Annie's for having us! Thanks to Grechen for organizing this amazing group of ladies!
And thank you, Google Images, for providing one more photo that I could use for this post. Since the only shot I took was of my cheeseburger.

Styling Kathryn

You guys. I've raved before about my fab friend Kathryn. I wish you could meet her. She's wonderful.
This May, Nathan and I had the privilege to travel to her family farm in Iowa, where she married her love, our friend, and bar-none the sweetest person on the planet, Rami. In fact, I better move on, before this unravels into too much of a love fest all around.

Kathryn had two incredible dresses. The first was a short, white dress with sweetheart neckline, lace overlay, scalloped hem and yellow ribbon waistband. The second was a strapless, column dress made from the most beautiful crisp, white seersucker. It had pockets (!) and pleating on the bodice. She styled it for the day-after shoot with an antique brooch at the waistband (not seen here), beautiful orange and gold necklace from Rami, birdcage veil, and yellow heels from the wedding.

For her and Rami's Austin reception party at Shoreline (which was last weekend and oh-so much fun), Kathryn asked for some help in restyling the seersucker column dress. In Kathryn's own words, her new short, sassy haircut pretty much required a make-over for the dress. It was a blank slate that could be revamped with hair accessories, possibly a belt, shoes and jewelry.

After scouring Buffalo Exchange, Savers, Anthro, and DSW, we came up with a fabulously chic ensemble of grey, silver and white. You might think that would be boring. But take a look at the beaded belt we found. And take a look at how Kathryn decided to wear it. Backwards!

Details:
Hair accessories: Kathryn restyled her birdcage veil so that most of the veil part was tucked under, clipping in the little grey flower barrettes, which we found on sale at Anthro
Necklace: birthday gift(!) from Rami
Shoes: SM Luxe, from DSW
Belt: the pièce de résistance, from Anthro
