"Me" time

I've never, never in my whole life needed "Me" time. I'd heard before of this mysterious thing people did where they'd go off (all by themselves!) and do whatever they wanted. Alone. I heard about people going to the movies by themselves. It's true! I heard about people taking long walks alone, just themselves and their thoughts. I've never had that need for alone time. In fact, if I knew any inside government secrets (I don't, by the way) the fastest way for terrorists to get me to talk would be to put me in a quiet room all by myself, with all my friends in the next room over, so that I could hear their talking and laughing. Oh my god. Just thinking about that would've tortured me a few months ago. But not now.

I've discovered how AMAZING it is to take an hour or two after work to shut myself into the back room and read in bed. It's like the most luxurious thing I've ever done! I'm talking chocolate and champagne kind of luxurious. Only without the calories. I think it's also related to getting away from the tellie, and back to my original love: books. Not to get too touchy-feely, but it feels like I'm plugging back into my true self or something. Ahhh. It's wonderful.

Are you the type that needs alone time-- and were you always that way? Because this change is kind of freaking me out, you guys. OK, not really. I love it.

I definitely like my space. I had a year when all my friends left town for university and it was just me. I really learned to love myself in that time. I was alone a lot, but I never felt lonely unless someone pointed out how weird it was for me to be alone. I went to the movies alone (one time I was the only person in the entire theater! I had my own private viewing!) I worked out alone. I took walks alone and went shopping alone and ate at restaurants alone. It made me feel strong. I really like that my husband has classes and band practice and things that keep him busy so that I can puts around on my own.
Books are my secret lovers too. Being away from a television is best. If you are alone and there is a tv then it turns into boring veg time.

definitely know what you're talking about. in fact, tim and I talked about building a little "secret room" unknown to everyone else when we build that house...fill it with books and music and clear xmas lights and sheets to where it's like the kind of fort we used to build as kids. prbly a silly idea but it's kind of nice to have a time and space that's all to yourself...

i soooo need my alone time. i realized this a lot with my first "real" boyfriend. i mean, it probably had something to do with the fact we didn't really fit right as a couple, well i mean, him being too in love with himself...(woops, did i say that aloud?) i would reference my alone time as "free-time". one day my friend laughed saying "i love that you call it free-time when you are away from him, like he is work or something..."

i realized that did sound odd. LOL

hugs to you & hooray for luxurious alone time. you deserve it lady!

I'm half and half. Half extorvert, half introvert. Half me time, half people time. Works perfectly for me!!
